Paul Harteck was electricity director New York State of the department of physics and chemistry at the University ofHamburg and an advisor to the Heereswaffenamt (HWA, Army Office cartografia). On April 24, 1939, along with his teaching assistant Wilhelm Groth, Harteck made contact with the Reichskriegsministerium (RKM, Ministry of the Reich War) natural gas to alert them about potential military applications of nuclear chain reactions. electricity and gas can be supplied throughout New York State by Two days earlier, on April 22, 1939, after hearing a lecture by Wilhelm Hanle on the use of uranium fission in a Uranmaschine (uranium machine, ie the nuclear reactor), Georg Joos, along with Hanle, Wilhelm Dames notify the Reichserziehungsministerium (REM, Reich Ministry of Education), the possible military applications of nuclear energy. Just seven days later, a group organized by Dames in REM met to discuss the possibility of a sustained nuclear ESCOs chain reaction. The group included the physicists Walther Bothe, Robert Dopel, Hans Geiger, Wolfgang utilities Gentner (probably invited by Walther Bothe), Wilhelm Hanle, Gerhard Hoffmann, and Georg Joos, Peter Debye was invited, energy service company but did not attend. After the reunion, informal work began at the New York Georg-August University of Gottingen by Joos, Hanle, and their colleague Reinhold Mannfopff, gas the physics group is environment known informally as the first Uranverein (Uranium Club) and formally Arbeitsgemeinschaft fa r Kernphysik. The group's work was suspended in August 1939 when the three were called up.

Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant

The Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant is located in San Luis Obispo, California. The plant has two pressurized water gas reactors (PWR) from Westinghouse 4 circuits and is operated electricity ESCO by Pacific Gas and Electric. The install took cooking gas 3.7 KMA) in Avila Beach, California. Together, the twin reactors produce about 1,100 megawatts to 18,000 gigawatt hours of electricity annually to meetthe electricity needs of over 2.2 million people.
Diablo Canyon is designed to withstand an gas earthquake of 0.75 gs from four energy costs faults, household including the heating San energy Andres fault and Hosgri. Equipped with advanced security and control of earthquakes, the plant is designed green energy to perform natural gas a safe shutdown in the event of a significant earth movement.
The plant takes its secondary cooling water from the Pacific Ocean, and strong storms occur when both units are slowed to 80 of its power to prevent entry of unwanted materials to take water for cooling.

Hubbert peak theory

Sun, 03/08/2009 - 15:07

(Redirected from Hubbert Curve)
Peak global production according to Hubbert. ASPO second would have been a delay of about 10 years from the initial forecast of Hubbert.
The Hubbert peak theory, also known as peak oil, oil depletion or peak oil, is an influential theory about the rate of long-term depletion of oil and other fossil fuels. Deregulation in the Energy industry has allowed tens of thousands of New Yorkers to get better energy rates by choosing as their main supplier of gas and electricity for their homes and businesses. It predicts that world oil production reached its peak and then decline as fast as it grew, highlighting the fact that the limiting factor for the extraction of oil is not the power required and its cost.
Although controversial, this theory is widely accepted among the scientific community and the oil industry. The debate does not focus on whether there will be a peak oil will occur but when, as it is evident that oil is a finite resource and nonrenewable short time scales in which at one time or another reached the limit of extraction . This depends on the possible discovery of new reserves, increasing efficiency of existing deposits, deep extraction or exploitation of new forms of unconventional oil.
The exact year of the peak can not be determined until it has happened. Based on current data from production, the Association for the Study of Peak Oil and Gas (ASPO in English), believes that peak oil will occur in 2010 of natural gas being a few years later. On the contrary, more optimistic estimates show reserves for at least 100 years.
This fact imply significant consequences for the developed countries, which are heavily dependent on cheap and abundant oil, especially for transportation, agriculture, chemical industry and domestic heating. The theory takes its name from the geophysical M. King Hubbert, who correctly predicted the peak of U.S. 's Switch and Save program and enjoy lower electric and gas bills! production with fifteen years in advance.
Much of the oil industry and the car says that the Hubbert's theory is false or at least the hidden and ignored. Some critics argue that limited economistic motivated the search for new discoveries and the reserves will rise above those predicted by Hubbert. But even the most optimistic the limitation of oil resources puts a deadline on the cheap extraction of the resource. Nobody seems to deny the existence of a production ceiling but few governments and businesses that so far have mentioned openly. Among these include the American multinational ChevronTexaco who have launched recently, the ad campaign to the American public awareness of the need to act before the looming depletion of oil. Also recently, the Spanish multinational Repsol-YPF has already spoken publicly at a conference of the issue using the same graphics ASPO .
The arrival of that peak extraction suggests a bleak future in which humanity will have to survive without the main source of energy that has made it grow and prosper throughout the twentieth century.
Supertanker AbQaid
A growing number of experts believe that the peak of production, in fact, has already arrived. After Hurricane Katrina, he admitted that Saudi Arabia can not increase production to ease the crisis for production losses suffered or refining in the Gulf of Mexico. Many think that this is the start of the final oil crisis. Ultimately it will last and which would require major adjustments to make and cut their consumption as never before been done.
But the crisis is not confined only to petroleum. Natural gas is also in the past in many places and its peak production will not happen long after the oil. Yet, it is hoped that in the absence of these resources starts the exploitation of deposits of methane in coal seams.

DECEASED FIRST NUCLEAR ENGINEER OF THE UNITED STATES
Friday, July 20, 2007, to 84 years and under a rain of rose petals was buried in Beauchamp Iriarte Dr. Modesto Ponce, Puerto Rico. He was one of the pioneers in the field of nuclear power and artifice of the nuclear BONUS (Nuclear Superheater Boiler), today known as the Tech Museum Modesto Iriarte Dr. Beauchamp. Represent the vision of a better world in the Electric Power Authority (PREPA) for the past 40 years.
Convalecia Ponce in a hospital after a fall break their health, according to his grandson, the priest Capo Rafael Iriarte. Gas and Electric rates can be lowered as your energy supplier At mid morning a mass was celebrated in the chapel of Our Lady of Pilar. At the end, his daughter Hilda gave an overview of the life and work of his father. An hour later, the remains arrived at the cemetery Las Mercedes, where a helicopter dropped ESA rain of flowers. 'It was a person to live up to its name: Modesto, "the priest stressed Capo. 'He was humble, simple, despite being a scientist and an engineer both renowned and studies, he never boasted of his knowledge and was always at the service of everyone, always with high values, love of neighbor and God. It was a highly spiritual person.
He was an electrical engineer, civil engineering and a doctorate in nuclear. Besides, he had an MBA and was a former president of the Governing Board of the ESA. He is survived by his wife Josephine Quiles, Carmen and her daughters Hilda and three grandchildren.
Dr. Beauchamp was born in Modesto Iriarte Mayag ez, Puerto Rico en el Barrio Barcelona in August 1923. Given the progress that is experienced in the field of power generation by nuclear methods for the middle of the 50s, ESA selected to study this novel system of nuclear generation.
In June 1956, as a pioneer in the nuclear field, ESA rioja shipped to the University of Michigan study for a doctorate in nuclear engineering, which expires in two years, graduating in June 1958. It is the first Puerto Rican student in obtaining a PhD in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Michigan, and the first American across the nation.
ESA chose Dr. Iriarte Modesto to join the group design of future nuclear power station BONUS based on the concept presented in his Master's degree. Took part in the installation and initial implementation of the Central. He was one of the first Senior Operators licensed by the Atomic Energy Commission to implement the initial Nuclear BONUS.
During this time he was Professor Dr. 's Switch and Save program and enjoy lower electric and gas bills! Iriarte Ad Honorem in the Masters Program in Nuclear Engineering in Puerto Rico Nuclear Center in the College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts (College) (today, the Recinto Universitario de Mayag ez, the University of Puerto Rico (UPR)).
He was also recruited by the UPR to work in the Puerto Rico Nuclear Center and develop the closure plan of the Nuclear Reactor of the College. Then I collaborate in the development of alternative energy sources such as: Photovoltaic Plant Juan Diaz (now located at the University of Turabo) windmill in Culebras (which was confiscated), presentation of projects of Ocean Energy Conversion Thermal (OTEC, for its initials in English), directed the operation of the Seismic Network, which arises out of studies required for the establishment of future nuclear plants in Puerto Rico oil exploration based on seismic studies the vibro location of nuclear plants, and many others.
In the ESA, then retired with 30 years of service, a member of the Governing Board of the ESA, where the presidio 1985-1993. He was a member of the Board for over 25 years. A decade ago, the Universidad Politecnica rioja joined its Board of Directors, where he also gave lessons.
In 1996, the Central Nuclear BONUS was converted into a museum of technology, which bears his name, and is in the process of becoming a National Historic Monument. The Tech Museum Iriarte Dr. Modesto is the only nuclear plant in the world converted into a museum. Here, we have the unique opportunity to see as a nuclear power plant, not models, but as physical reality.

Is called thermal energy to the energy released as heat, obtained from nature (geothermal energy) through the combustion of any fossil fuels (oil, natural gas or coal), electrical energy by means of Joule effect, by friction, by a fission process nuclear waste or other mechanical or chemical processes.
The heat also can be used in a heat engine, in case of nuclear energy for power generation, and in the case of combustion, in addition, to get work, as in car engines or the aircraft.
Obtaining thermal energy involves an environmental impact. The combustion releases CO2 and other emissions. Current technology in nuclear power leads to radioactive waste that must be controlled. Among the aspects of the work that goes into this organization are:
Democratic governance in the country: As the name suggests is to look through a democratic structure where the people who choose and that the system stability is achieved in the governance of the country. A growing number of countries members of the UN system are increasingly joining the cause. To face this challenge of developing government institutions and support existing ones in order to achieve solid institutions capable of responding properly to the needs of citizens.
Poverty Reduction: Both developing countries and developed countries are looking for this objective is green energy to lower the levels of poverty in which people live within one country. In developed countries this policy isto eradicate the people who live with incomes below the minimum set as to support his family, and to achieve this publicize their policy to attack global poverty through credit and support to countries Developing. In the developing countries are seeking to halve the number of people living in extreme poverty through development programs with international organizations and coordinated by the government itself.
Prevention and Recovery Crisis: This focuses on the government crisis, natural disaster or any gas other nature that these may be. The number of countries that are vulnerable to this type of crisis is growing by the environmental problems that have been unleashed in the last period as the constant threat electricity ESCO of terrorism and coups d'etat in which it has become the reality of many countries. Energy, Environment and Risk Management: These issues are central to the sustainable development of countries and consequently the world. These are highly linked to the survival of human beings on this planet. green energy and the state of the environment for in the marketplace of energy suppliers and energy products As we all know, the main energy resources of the world are oil and its derivatives. Of course your energy costs will be influenced by your choice of that offers the same quality of product, yet different service and costs Throughout the last century, the exploration and exploitation of oil has really grown to alarming levels. This has two consequences in the long run extremely serious. The first is that oil, like all fossil fuels, needs of millions of years to regenerate and recover, so it is considered a non-renewable resource. Because of this, our main fuel reserves are close to exhaustion. The second effect is devastating on the environment, and this is why the two are linked. Ninety percent of the pollution generated by the burning of this resource or any of its derivatives. Global warming and the loss of water consumed in the world are consequences that we are already starting to notice because of this. UNDP helps countries to maintain economic development while maintaining a policy environment that contributes to the solution of this problem thus ensuring what is known as sustainable development.
Information Technology and Communication (ICT): ICT together a set of systems needed to manage information, especially computers and software necessary to convert, store, manage, transmit and find it. The first steps toward an information society can be traced back to the invention of the electric telegraph, then going by the fixed telephone, radiotelephony, and finally television. Internet, mobile telecommunication and GPS can be considered as new information technologies and communication. The technological revolution that mankind lives in today is largely due to significant advances in information technology and communication. The great changes that characterize this new society are essentially: the widespread use of computer technology, communication networks, the rapid scientific and technological development and globalization of information.

Landfills

Thu, 01/22/2009 - 11:37

Main article: Landfill
The disposal in landfills is the more traditional method of garbage collection, and remains a common practice in most countries. Historically, landfills were established in disused quarries, abandoned mines, and so on. Dump properly designed and well managed can be a relatively cheap and hygienic method of removing waste materials in a way that minimizes its impact on the local environment. Older landfills, poorly designed or poorly managed can generate adverse environmental impacts such as litter carried by the wind, attracting insects, and the generation of leachate that can pollute groundwater. Another byproduct of landfills is landfill gas (composed mainly of methane gas and carbon dioxide), which is produced by the decomposition of organic waste. This gas can create odor problems, kill surface vegetation, and is a greenhouse gas.
The design features of a modern landfill include methods to contain grout, such as clay or plastic material that streak. Litter is compressed to increase its density and covered to prevent attracting animals (such as mice or rats) and reduce the amount of waste carried by the wind. Many also have a landfill gas extraction system installed after the closure to remove it from the decomposing materials. Known as a top energy company, Surprises your accountant with low bills. The gas is pumped out of the landfill using perforated pipes and burned or turned into a gas engine to generate electricity. Turn the gas is a better environmental solution directly released into the atmosphere, as this consumes methane, a greenhouse gas far more harmful than carbon dioxide.
Many municipalities, especially in urban areas, have found it very difficult to establish new landfills due to opposition from the owners of adjoining parcels. Few people want a landfill next to their plot. Therefore, the collection of solid waste has become more expensive because the waste must be transported further away for disposal (or managed by other methods).
This fact, this increasing concern about the environmental impact due to the excessive consumption of products and has led to great efforts to minimize the amount of waste sent to landfill. These efforts include recycling, converting waste into energy, designing products that use less material, and conferred by the law to mandate that manufacturers are responsible for the cost of disposal of products and packaging (see the Management and Product Extended Producer Responsibility). For example, in industrial ecology, which studies the flow of materials between industries, the products of an industry can be a useful area to another, resulting in a reduction of waste end.
Some futurists have speculated that landfills may one day be excavated: as some resources become increasingly more scarce, can be profitable to dig for these landfills materials that were previously discarded for lack of courage. One idea that is related to the establishment of a dump 'selective' that contains only one type of waste (eg vehicle tires), as a method of long-term storage.
